Does your child have trouble playing with peers?
Does your child have trouble making or keeping friends?
Does your child portray negative feelings towards peers and/or school?
Does your child's teacher have concerns about his/her social interactions?
Does your child have trouble "fitting in" at community events?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above your child may benefit from a social skill group. Our goal is to design a group that will teach children appropriate 'social tools' to use on their own. Social skill groups at Basic Concepts place a strong emphasis on pragmatic language, as we feel that communicating effectively with peers is a crucial to positive social interactions.

Our social skill groups are designed for children ages 2 through 10. Groups typically have 2 to 5 children and are led by a speech language pathologist or special educator. The structure of each group is based on the needs of participating children. Children are matched and placed into groups with peers who have similar social needs. Adjustments to groups are made as needed to ensure continued progress for all children.

Our groups are designed to address the following areas:
  • Attention
  • Behavior
  • Bullying
  • Emotions
  • Friendships
  • Initiating and Maintaining Conversation
  • Play Skills
  • Pragmatic Language
  • Problem Solving
  • Sharing
  • Stress Management
  • Turn-Taking
